Affordable recording studio in Montreal

Chromatel Recording Studio serves Montreal and the Greater Montreal area (West Island / Vaudreuil corridor) as a hybrid tracking, rehearsal, and streaming space. Rates stay accessible, and the workflow is built around what happens in the room: full-band takes, focused overdubs, practice blocks, and go-live sessions when you need them—with optional audio tech, mixing & mastering, and streaming infrastructure on hand.

Tracking philosophy — why the room works this way

Chromatel is performance-first. The goal is a stable, repeatable capture every time you book: clear monitoring, consistent levels, and takes you can trust—not a chase for abstract “room magic.” The space is engineered for predictability: you should know what you’re hearing, play with confidence, and walk away with material that reflects the performance, not surprise color from the building.

Monitoring is built around wired and wireless in-ear monitors (IEMs), so everyone gets a controlled, comfortable mix and we can keep playback levels ear-safe without guessing. Speakers function as a managed PA-style reference—useful for balance and energy in the room—not as traditional nearfield “control room” monitors. That choice supports consistency between players and keeps the focus on the take.

Drums are recorded with close, purposeful mic placement suited to this room—not a classic overhead-and-room-mic picture built around ambience. The aim is a defined kit image that sits reliably in a full-band mix, with problems addressed at the source instead of patched later.

Across the board, we prefer to remove physical issues early (gain staging, headphone mixes, mic placement, arrangement in the room) so you spend less time fixing what should have been solid on the way in. That mindset runs through tracking, rehearsal, and streaming: same space, same priorities.

Who This Studio Is For / Who It’s Not For

A good fit if you want to track full-band performances with everyone playing together; care about clear headphone or IEM mixes and comfortable, level-conscious monitoring; value repeatable results from session to session; or you’re streaming, creating content, or using the room heavily for rehearsal and pre-production alongside recording. The workflow here is intentional—built for real-world usability, not showroom aesthetics.

Another studio may suit you better if your project depends on a large live room with lots of natural ambience as the main sound; you’re looking for a classic “nearfield monitors in an isolated control room” experience above all else; your drum sound is meant to lean on traditional overhead and room microphones for character; or you expect heavy tone shaping or repair in post to happen automatically without time booked for production decisions. None of that is a judgment on your music—it simply isn’t what this room is optimized for.

If you’re unsure, call or book a conversation when you reserve. We’re happy to talk through your session before you commit.

About Us

Chromatel Studio began as a private jam space where two long-time friends spent countless hours writing, playing, and experimenting with sound. What started as a personal creative hangout gradually grew into a full recording and production environment as the equipment, workflow, and vision expanded. Over time, we realized the space had developed the capability and atmosphere to support other artists, not just our own sessions.

This is when Chromatel Studio officially became a public recording studio and creative workspace. The same passion that drove us to build the room for our own projects now shapes the experience we offer to others. It is a focused, musician-first environment created by people who understand the needs of artists. The studio continues to grow, but the foundation remains the same: real music, real people, and a shared love of creating.

Today, Chromatel runs as a dedicated tracking and rehearsal room inside a private creative workspace. The through-line is performance capture: reliable monitoring (IEM-first, with speakers used as a controlled room reference), signal paths you can trust, and a workflow that favors consistency and repeatability over chasing abstract sonic ideals. We invest in what shows up on tape or disk—routing, conversion, mics, monitoring, and session flow—not in impressing visitors with jargon or décor.

We keep refining the room; reinvestment goes straight into equipment and usability. Sessions happen in a dedicated space within a secure private facility. For safety and privacy, full address details are shared after booking, which is common for private-access studios. If you want a room built for dependable takes, clear monitoring, and honest pricing, you’re in the right place—if you’re unsure, read Who This Studio Is For / Who It’s Not For in the FAQ or reach out before you book.
